2007 Vacation (Aug 1 - Aug 5)

This year we went north of the bridge to stay at "Mackinac Straights State park". We had a really nice site...

We discovered our beach was nothing but rocks... very disappointing as we like to spend our vacations in the waves. While on our beach we were within walking distance of the base of the Mackinac Bridge. Here is a picture of Tom on the beach... it was an exceptionally clear day (this picture was actually taken on Saturday, 8/4)

We visited (and yes climbed) Castle rock.... Here is a picture of the kids and I standing by Paul Bunyan and his big blue ox... ( I dont remember them being behind a fence when I was a kid, but then times have certainly changed). For the record there are 89 steps to climb Castle Rock...

We also visited Fort Michillimackinac.. here are a couple pics of the family at the fort. The whole family was facinated by the history within the fort, we even got to watch them fire off the canon... It was French revolution weekend, so we were able to even talk with some "soldiers" about the life of they had.

Daddy & his soldiers...

We also stopped into Mystery Spot... We walked throug the maze, took the tour, and then played a round of Put-Put Golf (I think it's Tom's favorite)

Then of course there was swimming: Lots of swimming... .Every day we hit the beach (it was about 10 minutes West on US-2. We had wonderful waves. Tom also loved those as he has become quite the swimmer this summer

Sarah chose our sandcastle, she chose to do a coppertone butt, so a coppertone butt is what we did.

And finally we spent some time at the park on our trip home.. We actually
visited every state park on the east coast between the bridge and Tawas where we headed inland and made our final decent to home. Getting us to our campsite on Wednesday took only four hours, but to get home we were in the car for ten and a half hours. But, I think the whole family would agree that we wouldnt have changed anything...
